Mystery Photo

In our Fall 2010 Newsletter, Access, we posed the following... "You need good eyes to see this on campus, but it's there!"

Here's the photo as it appeared in the newsletter.

Can you tell what it is? It is actually a solitary rugose coral almost one inch in diameter and cut along the axis.

That of course doesn't help to tell you where it is on campus, so let's pull back a bit. It's visible in the center of the photograph, right over the ledge.

Okay - this will give it away. The answer is that it's in the northwest corner of the Tolley Humanities Building.

The story of this small coral appeared on page 1 of the Syracuse Record on Sept. 21, 1978 accompanied by a photograph by Richard Folkers, a copy of which we hold in the SU Archives.
