The building is three stories high and has a 400 seat capacity auditorium, 2 lecture halls and 17 offices. It was named for Arnold M. Grant, who gave a gift of $800,000 for the construction of the building. He was a member of the Class of 1927, a trustee, and a New York City attorney. He received a degree from the Syracuse University College of Law in 1929.
There was an honor convocation at the dedication of the building. Supreme Court Justices Abe Fortas and Tom Clark were the main speakers and received honorary degrees.
Grant Auditorium, Ernest I. White Hall, and Barclay Library are all connected and comprise the College of Law Complex.
