Notes: Kimmel Hall was named for Claude L. Kimmel, alumnus and former Board of Trustees member. It was designed to meet increasing demands for housing after the Second World War as well as provide modern facilities for students. Kimmel Hall's innovative features included automatic elevators, outlets for closed circuit television, and individual room telephone outlets. These new facilities were part of a experiment in "residence education.

"Originally designed as a Men's dormitory, Kimmel Hall housed 68 upper-class and 50 freshmen students. This was the first dormitory to house freshman with upperclassmen. In 1992 Kimmel dining hall was converted into a food court offering national-brand "fast food" restaurants. In 1993 Kimmel Hall became a graduate residence hall.

The dormitory also housed a main lounge, library, recreation area, main office and dining hall. Kimmel dining hall can seat 400 students at a time and between 700-800 on a rotation basis.

The project was financed through the federal government's Home Finance Corporation.
