Faculty Papers: Andre Fontaine
Andre Fontaine joined Syracuse University in 1965 and taught magazine journalism in the Newhouse School of Public Communications. He continued to teach after his retirement in 1976. This collection consists of correspondence, writings, papers and manuscripts, research notes, outlines, final drafts and published materials, lecture notes and student course work. Large sections of the collection contain drafts of books Fontaine was writing on U.S. naval figures Joshua Barney and Stephen Decatur.
These papers cover the years 1937 to 1994 and consist of 13 boxes totalling 6.5 cubic feet. The collection was deposited after Fontaine's death by his son Mark. The finding aid was prepared by Chad R. Wheaton.
Please note: the Archives holds other, currently unprocessed records of Andre Fontaine. They are: Accession 702, 9 boxes covering 1950-1976; and Accession 702 Adds, 2 boxes covering 1958-1984. A brief index for each box is listed under Unprocessed Papers in the links to the left.
Researchers interested in the Andre Fontaine Papers should mention the collection's Accession Number (1990, 702 or 702 Adds) when contacting the Syracuse University Archives. Please note that this collection is housed off-site and advance notice is required to allow time to have the materials brought to the Bird Library Reading Room.
