Button worn by members of the Goon Squad, 1956. Established in the 1940s, the Goon Squad's job was to help incoming freshman adjust to college life and spread school spirit throughout campus. These upper class students were involved in planning Opening Week and helped students move into their dorms. Wearing elaborate straw hats and Jiminy Cricket buttons, members of the Goon Squad would lead cheers at football games. Today, the Goon Squad continues to assist freshmen moving in to their dorms and help them adapt to college life.
