Time Out! Sports from SU's Past - Wrestling Slideshow

Time In: 1921 / Time Out: 2001

Wrestling became a varsity level sport almost immediately after being introduced at Syracuse. A prosperous team, one of its most prominent members, Gene Mills, led the team through two undefeated seasons in 1979 and 1981, two NCAA championships, and went on to the Olympics and Wrestling Hall of Fame. The University's decision to drop the wrestling program came with much animosity. The goal of $2 million to keep the program alive was never reached, and the team hit the mats for the last time in 2001.
