On December 21, 1988 Pan Am Flight 103, a 747 named Clipper Maid of the Seas, was blown up over Lockerbie, Scotland. Since that date the incident has continued to make headlines. First, the investigation and eventual indictments in 1991 of two Libyan intelligence agents, Abdel Basset al-Megrahi and Lamin Khalifa Fhima, were covered by news outlets across the globe. The trials held at Camp Zeist in the Netherlands in 2001 and the eventual release of al-Megrahi, the only person convicted of the bombing, in 2009 returned Pan Am 103 to the world spotlight. Recent events in Libya, including the fall of the Gaddafi regime, have brought Pan Am 103 back into headlines once again. All these events and more are documented in The Syracuse University Collection: The Clippings Collection at the Pan Am 103 Archives.
The Syracuse University Collection: The Clippings Collections contains Clippings related to the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 and its aftermath. These clippings were collected beginning in December, 1988 immediately following the bombing and continue to present day. The clippings included in The Syracuse University Collection: The Clippings Collection have all been collected internally by Archives staff and do not include any outside dontations. Clipping format has changed from those printed in newspapers to those printed from online resources as time has passed.
Please note that some materials are restricted at donor's request and exhibit materials are not available for researchers.
